Kathmandu

Kathmandu; officially the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, is the capital and the most populous city of Nepal with 845,767 inhabitants living in 105,649 households in 2021 and 2.9 million people in its urban agglomeration. It is located in the Kathmandu Valley, a large valley in the high plateaus in central Nepal, at an altitude of 1,400 meters. It is the second largest city proper in Himalayan hill region after Srinagar, and the largest Metropolitan region in the Himalayan hill region. The historic Kathmandu valley offers an insight into the number of mysterious temples and stupas carved with wooden struts, images of various gods and goddesses, old palaces, historical monuments, teeming bazaars and narrow back streets. The valley boasts of seven world cultural heritage sites all clustered within valley.

Pokhara

Pokhara is a metropolitan city in Nepal, which serves as the capital of Gandaki Province. It is the second most populous city of Nepal after Kathmandu, with 518,452 inhabitants living in 101,669 households in 2021. It is the country's largest metropolitan city in terms of area. The city also serves as the headquarters of Kaski District. Pokhara is located 200 kilometres west of the capital, Kathmandu. The city is on the shore of Phewa Lake, and sits at an elevation of approximately 822m. The Annapurna Range, with three out of the ten highest peaks in the world—Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu—is within 15–35 mi of the valley. It is Nepal’s second most popular tourist destination at the lap of the Annapurna Himalayas. It is 200km away from Kathmandu by surface. It offers natural view of the mountains and is graced with glittering lakes, foaming rivers, majestic caverns. It is the starting point for many of Nepal’s most popular trekking and mountaineering expeditions.

Lumbini

Lumbinī is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Lumbini Province in Nepal. It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Mahamayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama at around 563 BCE. Gautama, who, according to Buddhist tradition, achieved Enlightenment some time around 528 BCE, became the Buddha and founded Buddhism. Lumbini is one of many magnets for pilgrimage that sprang up in places pivotal to the life of the Buddha. The birth place of lord Bhuddha situated in the southern terai belt of Nepal. Lord Bhuddha was born in Lumbini Park in 623BC under a Sal grova (sorea robusta) on the full moon day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar. This day is the most important and unique day for the Buddhists. The restored garden and surroundings of Lumbini remind us the ancient stupas and monasteries.

Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur, known locally as Khwopa, is a city in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal located about 13 kilometres from the capital city, Kathmandu. It is located in and serves as the headquarters of Bhaktapur District in Bagmati Province of Nepal. In terms of area, Bhaktapur is the smallest city of Nepal.

 It is an important tourist site, popular for medieval art and architecture, thriving local pottery and weaving cottage industries. It is a living monument of Nepal. When we visit the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the surroundings with its massive five – storied Pagoda temple devoted to the goddess Laxmi, the colourful market, the narrow streets teeming with local people, impress the visitors.

Pashupatinath Temple

The most scared Hindu shrine dedicated to Hindu God Lord Shiva. Built before 400AD, it is the largest temple complex in Nepal. Only the Hindus are allowed to go inside the temple

The south side of the temple (the bank of Bagmati River) which is most famous for cremation for Hindus. It is believed that, cremating in the temple complex will be released from the cycle of rebirths and attained Nirvana (Salvation).

Boudhanath

Bouddhanath stupa which is about half an hour drive from the city hotels. Bouddhanath (World Heritage site) is the world’s biggest stupa built in the 7th century. Colossal in shape, the stupa attracts Bhuddhist pilgrims all over the world. Hundreds of prayer flag hang from twine stretched across the central tower and in the distance, the golden roofs of the surrounding temples can be seen framed by the Himalayas in the backdrop.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square was the most impressive royal residence – full of ancient temples all around the old palace square, reflecting the religious and culture life of the people. It is also home to Kumari, the “Living goddesses,” believed to be a reincarnation of Hindu Goddesses, Durga. It is the best shopping place for curios and antiques goods, flutes, woodcarving, wooden masks, handloom products, souvenirs and many more. “Kasthamandap” also located within the Durbar Square. Kasthamandap – constructed using the wood of a single tree.

Swyambhunath

Drive to Swoyambhunath (World Heritage site)  Popularly known as monkey temple, is located on a top of a hill in the north-west of Kathmandu valley. It is said to be 2000 years old and has been an important pilgrimage site for Buddhiest devotees from all around the world. The stupa has a symmetrical design symbolizing the very essence of Buddhism and the path to enlightenment.

Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square is located south of Kathmandu city and is popular for architectural example of old Nepal. The Patan Durbar Square and Patan city remind the visitors how Nepal was appeared when the country first opened its doors for tourist in the era 1950’s. One remarkable monument worth visiting is 17th century old temple dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna, built entirely by stone. Inside the Patan durbar square there are many Hindu temples and famous Bhuddha stupas erected side by side in the narrow, winding streets.

Changunarayan Temple

Build around in the 3rd century, this temple is richly decorated with sculptures with carving made out of stone, wood and metal. It is situated on a peninsular ridge to the north of Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The surrounding views are splendid and the temple is the living museum. The courtyard has many other temples such as that of Kiloswar, Shiva, Chhinnamasta Devi, Garuga and different image of Lord Vishnu.

Nagarkot

Situated on the Kathmandu valley rim, it is one of the beautiful hill resorts places, popular for the panoramic views of major peaks of the Himalayas. On a clear day, we can witness a spectacular sight of sunset and sunrise over the massive peaks.

Outside Kathmandu Valley

Namo Buddha

It is one of the most popular Buddhist pilgrimage sites situated on a hill above Panauti. The lovely walk-through rice field, bamboo forest and small villages offer an excellent glimpse of rural life.

Bandipur

Situated about 130km from Kathmandu, it is a scenic and ancient Newari town popular for breathtaking views of north eastern part of the mountains. Here, we can observe the lifestyle of the Newar communities and the artistic wood-carving traditional houses.

Daman

Situated at an altitude of 2400m and located 80km southwest of Kathmandu valley, Daman is famous for magnificent views of the world’s highest mountain range from Everest to Annapurna. There is a view tower fitted with long range telescope.

 

Gorkha

It is a picturesque home town of the past kings of the Shah dynasty that built Nepal. Gorkha’s centerpiece is the magnificent Gorkha durbar which is a fort, palace and a temple with excellent views of the surrounding valleys and the Manaslu Himalayan range.
